Hello all! I’m back and I’m bringing you more Game of Thrones goodness and feels! Last time, I covered the Lannisters and made predictions about their fate and expressed my hate for Joffrey. This week, I’m talking about the Starks, or what’s left of them, and will be giving my opinions and predictions as to where they’re headed. Again, I’m giving you a fair spoiler warning. I will be referring to events that have occurred in the television show. If you haven’t watched then I don’t know what you’re doing with yourself. You could say that you’re “having a life” but what’s a life without Game of Thrones?
Let us begin…
I’ll start with this: the Starks will probably hold no political sway in season 4. By this, I mean that they won’t affect a darn thing in King’s Landing or anywhere for that matter. Sansa’s battered and bruised, Arya’s off to learn how to kill mothereffers, and Bran’s doing what Bran does north of the wall. They’re all too spread apart to have an impact right now. Honestly, the Starks probably only exist to get slapped around by people with no honor. They exist to show us that honor in Westeros is equal to cow patties.
Let’s talk about Arya shall we? Let me first state that I am happy to not be related to or even associated with Arya Stark. People she likes have a nasty habit of dying. She is freakin’ CURSED! She was there when Eddard Stark bought the farm, she was outside when Catelyn and Robb kicked the bucket, and she was the reason the butcher’s boy from the first season went into the light. I don’t EVER want her to meet up with Bran or Sansa because that just means nothing but bad things for them.
You little jinx, you!
So Arya is now traveling with Sandor Clegane and he will be teaching her how to properly kill people. Honestly, I’m not happy with this direction in Arya’s character, and that’s how I’m supposed to feel. We’re sitting here watching as this little girl’s innocence is crushed out of her and she builds this kill-or-be-killed philosophy in this world. Remember in the finale, when she killed one of Frey’s men? How Clegane asked her if this was her first kill and she said yes like it was nothing? That frightens me. I think the worst part of it is that we can’t blame her nor can we say she’s wrong. This is Westeros. Arya’s watched three of her family members die and she’s absolutely correct in wanting to get revenge on the Lannisters. The most disturbing thought I’ve had is that Arya doesn’t know of Tyrion’s awesomeness. She doesn’t know how he’s protecting Sansa from Joffrey’s tyranny. He’s just another Lannister to her. If Martin really wanted to make us squirm, he would have Arya kill Tyrion. On the upside, if Arya gets reunited with her sword Needle next season, then I’ll be really happy. She can kill whoever the hell she wants at that point.
Sansa Stark… At the beginning of the season I was sitting on the couch, watching her get tortured by Joffrey and insulted by Cersei, and saying how she did it to herself because she never left. I still hold that philosophy, but I’m less adamant about it. I remember how she defended Joffrey after Lymeria attacked him and how she yelled at Arya because she was “ruining everything”. Then I thought about it a bit and I realized that she was playing the game. She was working to get her and her family to a higher position in Westeros and she continued to do so even after Ned died. I thought she was just being a hormonal teenager and was too lost in love to see how much of an asshole Joffrey was.
You clever little fox, you!
But for all that, she made her fair share of completely idiotic moves. Both Sandor Clegane and Petyr Baelish sought to give her relief from Joffrey and King’s Landing. Granted, Sandor just enjoys killing people and Petyr was a pervert, but are they really worse to be around than Joffrey? I’m sorry, but if I was Sansa, my ass would have been gone two minutes after my father got beheaded. There was no reason for her to stay anymore. Nada! Zip! Zero!
Now she’s married to Tyrion and she’ll never be able to leave King’s Landing. She is the reason why Tyrion and Joffrey will go to war next season. Tyrion wants to defend Sansa saying “she’s no longer yours to torment” and Joffrey’s just like “Ha! You got my sloppy seconds!”. Honestly, Joffrey is going to do bad things to Sansa. VERY bad things. Bad things that might give her a child, but then again, this show has made me look at the worst case scenario when it comes to its characters. For all we know, Tyrion will swoop in to protect her at every turn. Hell, she might even tell Joffrey to go [bleep] himself.
I’ll say this now: Bran Stark will walk again. I don’t know if it will happen in this season or if it’s going to happen farther on the down the road. It is going to happen. He’s going to learn about magic. Someone is going to heal him or maybe he’ll get so far into his Warg-ism that whatever power he has will grant him leg movement.
You’re day is coming, you crippled little warg, you!
Bran is off on his trip north of the wall to learn more about being a “warg”. Honestly, I don’t know where this story will head. This is probably the most open-ended scenario we have running right now. It can go in so many directions. He can learn about his powers and use them to get revenge on the Greyjoys; or he can get kidnapped by wildlings; or he can use his powers to become the next villain in Westeros; or, in true Martin fashion, he can die before any of this even [bleep]ing happens! Maybe he’ll run into Ygritte or people who knew Jon Snow. Then it’s safe to say he might die.
Jon Snow is currently at the Wall recovering from being shot in the back with arrows by his spurned lover, Ygritte. He deserved every single arrow in my opinion, but that’s probably because I like Ygritte as a character. We can’t really talk about Jon Snow without talking about the Black Watch. I’m going to call it here and say that the White Walkers will hit the wall. You don’t just have an epic scene in the end of season 2 and then walk away from it for an entire season and expect me to forget. No, shit’s about to get real at the wall and Jon Snow will be in the middle of it.
You are SO in for it you bastard, you!
Something tells me Snow isn’t done with Ygritte and the Wildlings just yet. They’re going to show up again. They’re probably going to die. The Watch isn’t in the habit of talking up and sleeping with Wildlings like Jon Snow is. I don’t know how it will affect Snow though because even though he had a teary encounter with Ygritte, I didn’t believe it. He might cry into her arms, allowing her to stab him in the stomach (as any woman scorn would), or he might just execute her. It’s definitely an encounter I am not looking forward to.
Then finally there’s Rickon Stark…
What do you even do?
Honestly, Rickon has never been important to the story and that’s probably going to continue on into the next season. The important person will be Osha. What will the Umbers do with a wildling woman who’s carrying the heir to Winterfell? They might just kill her and turn Rickon over to the Lannisters. I don’t know anything about anyone’s loyalty to the North after the Red Wedding. Rickon and Osha may have just been written off the show. We may never see them again. With all this drama going on, only one thing is certain: Hodor is gonna Hodor.
Anyway, it’s time for me to cease my ramblings and allow you to get back to your day. If you would like to contact me shoot me an email.
Hello all! The name’s Eric Grigg and I am the newest member of the Mad Family! There are now… two of us. No matter! I figured that since this is my first blog here, I’d start with something we all enjoy and generate some discussion. If you don’t like Game of Thrones… then I don’t know what to tell you… You’re a horrible person.
A bit of warning, I have not read any of the books in the Song of Ice and Fire series. I’m definitely intending to after three seasons of the show. If anything I say, is wildly out of the ballpark in terms of story progression or, hell, if I’m right on point, shut up! No spoilers in the comments. Warning #2! Possible spoilers may follow as I could call up details from the show, from all the seasons, to make my points. So now that that’s all out of the way, let’s get started!
Oh George R. R. Martin… What a sick, twisted, and sadistic genius you are. You crafted Westeros, a land filled with political turmoil and have somehow made me fall in love with it. You’ve given me characters to love and have either ripped them away from me or put them in awful and terrible positions, like the good writer you are. You’ve given me characters to hate and seated them at the very top of this world.
Namely this awful little s***
I’m sure at this point we’ve all seen and/or read the events leading up to and including the Red Wedding. The tape that I used to piece my heart together after watching it the first time is peeling off as I think about it. But now that Season 3 is over, I figured I’d write a few predictions and relive some memories. Maybe even cry a little.
Let’s Begin With The Lannisters:
Yes, the Lannisters… The pretty family that sits as the most powerful family in all of Westeros. What I find intriguing about the Lannisters is that even though they basically control everything in Westeros, they have never worked as a cohesive unit. They all have their own end goals in the game. Cersei wants to protect her asshole son, Joffrey; Tyrion wants to prove himself to the family; Joffrey wants to be an asshole; and Jaime, I don’t know. I guess he just wants to be back in his sister’s loving arms… and in her bed… Right now, the only person looking to further the Lannister name is Tywin himself.
In season 4, we’re probably going to see some dissension in the Lannister family now that Jaime, if his turn for the better is to believed, is back in King’s Landing. I still don’t understand his relationship with Brienne. I think we all defaulted to romantics because, hey, he’s a man… and she’s a woman… so the mechanisms are all there. So if I’m correct, then Brienne causes tension between Jaime and Cersei and she’ll probably die because Cersei doesn’t like to share. If I’m not correct, and Jaime and Brienne don’t “dance the dance of life”, then there really isn’t any use for her and, considering she was under the service of Lady Catelyn Stark, she’s probably going to die or at the very least, rot in a dungeon. This show has clouded my ability to deduce the survivability of its characters.
It’s been nice knowing you.
Cersei Lannister is a tough one to predict. I’ve been saying since season 2 that she’s probably, at some point, going to kill herself, but now I find myself saying that she’s too strong to give up in such a way. Let’s look at her current situation, shall we. She’s arranged to be married to Sir Loris Tyrell, a situation she wasn’t too happy about to begin with, even more so now that Jaime’s back in the mix. Her son is the king, which I guess is a plus; but he’s an evil, awful, and sadistic demon whose temper is, by definition, a short fuse, which is a minus. Yet, she feels like she has to protect him at all costs. Lord knows, Joffrey might kill his own mother. The only upside in her life now is that Jaime’s back in King’s Landing and that’s only if she can get past his missing hand. Cersei for the past two seasons has just been getting smacked around by Tyrion, Tywin, the Tyrells, and even Joffrey and the only hope for her is to find a way to get back as top villain and put everyone in their place. If she can’t do that, then I’m sure Grandmaester Pycel would be happy to give her some essence of hemlock.
Which leads us to Tyrion. Honestly, I don’t think anyone embodies the Lannisters better than Tyrion Lannister, the perverted/drunken dwarf. Tyrion’s come a long way from being the black sheep of the family in the first season. He was named hand of the king in Season 2 and then master of coin in season 3. Personally, I think this was Tyrion’s best outing. He was able to outwit pretty much everyone who opposed him, save for Tywin. This season also gave us some of his best quotes, namely when he shot down Jeoffry in the finale. It’s because this season gave him some success, that I believe season 4 is going to royally screw him. Tywin is probably going to find out about Shea, if he doesn’t know about her already, and have her killed; and if Tywin doesn’t do that, the Joffrey definitely will. This was even foreshadowed when Varys talked to her and pleaded for her to leave because her presence “endangers” Tyrion. As Varys said, Tyrion is one of the few people who can make Westeros a better place, and I believe that the moment Shae dies, all of that goes out the window.
We all love Tyrion… It’s a shame tragedy is probably in his future.
Now that Jaime Lannister is back, and minus a hand (on his sword arm, by the way), he’ll no longer be able to properly serve in the Kingsguard. I imagine he’ll be put in another position of power, probably taken from Tyrion. I’m not sure how the oath of the Kingsguard applies to people who can’t serve. Maybe there are lower positions. Maybe Jaime will have to clean the armor! They’ll give him an attachment for his stump that can hold a rag and he can wipe the armor with both hands! There are so many possibilities for Jaime, all of which include slipping it to Cersei on the side. Jokes aside, I can’t properly predict anything for Jaime as there are so many variables in play for him. This is probably due to my not reading the books, but that’s beside the point. OOH!!! Maybe he’ll get a sword attached to it! He’ll just reach a whole new level of badassery!
And finally, we come to the head of the Lannister family: Tywin. First off, Tywin Lannister is an utter genius! If it wasn’t for Tywin, then the Lannisters would be nothing in both a metaphorical and literal sense. If he didn’t show up at King’s Landing during the Battle of Blackwater, then all of the Lannisters would be dead or imprisoned and Stannis Baratheon would be sitting on the Iron Throne. Tywin makes all of the decisions currently, and I mean ALL of them. Do you think it was Joffrey who called for the assassination of Robb and Catelyn Stark? If so, the exit button is located at the top of your browser window. You probably haven’t figured that out yet. Tywin seems to be ten steps ahead of Westeros in general, even beating out Lady Olenna Tyrell at her own game! For the next season, we’re going to see Tywin continue his plots, however, I don’t know what else he’ll be doing since the war is just about over. Joffrey probably won’t take his advice given the events of the final small council meeting of the season. Actually, I expect Joffrey to fight Tywin at every step. Joffrey is King and Tywin is nothing more than an old man waiting to die! At least, that’s how it is in Joffrey’s idiotic mind.
Come at me, bro.
Can we just talk about that final small council meeting? I think it sets a perfect idea as what’s to come for the Lannisters in the next season. It shows Joffrey’s place in the family and in the castle in general, at the bottom. The conversation afterwards between Tyrion and Tywin showed at least a minute amount of respect for Tyrion on the part of Tywin. He finally called Tyrion a Lannister! It showed Cersei struggling to contain Joffrey’s rage. And can we just reminisce on everybody’s look of “Oh s**t!” after Tyrion threatened Joffrey? It was so beautiful! Everybody just stopped and looked at Joffrey, waiting for him to respond, to prove his power by shutting down the imp… AND HE FAILED! Then, in a desperate act, he dared, DARED, to attack Tywin saying he “hid under Casterly Rock”! Oh my God… Everybody just went to “Double Oh S**t” mode! Tywin’s face didn’t change but his head turned slightly, and in that turn, we saw the anger. We saw the rage. Then what does Tywin do? He sends the king to bed! Only the gods can help Joffrey now.
Speaking of Joffrey, you may have noticed that he doesn’t have his own section in this. That’s because he’s nothing more than a catalyst for the world around him. Jaime and Cersei’s antics may have set this into motion, but Joffrey’s kept the boat afloat.
And with that, I take my leave. I’ll be back at a later date to talk more about the rest of Westeros.
Hello there my friends !I have been dark for quite awhile and with good reason. We are revamping the site and working on a few long term projects that I’m sure you will be hearing about in the coming months, but with the most recent announcements at E3 or what I like to call The “Forget About the Consumers Just Make It Sparkle Convention” or FACJMISC for short or you know if you wanna make it sound like your about to vomit….well I that works if you say E3 as well, but I digress…
I thought it would be prudent for me to break things down and throw my two sense in for you all. Ok, ok I know you don’t want it,but I was lonely and to be quite honest I’m bored and tired of seeing reddit blow up my RSS feed about this @#$%.
Why don’t we try and do this in an interesting way, you know so I don’t grin my teeth out with a belt sander.
(Insert sports theme song here….and maybe some awesome graphics)
oh yeah that's prettying @#$%ing sweet
Hi and welcome to in the V-Zone, where we tell you the latest news on the gaming grudge match of the century; the battle for console supremacy! I’m Tom Traverse and to my left is Allen Arkham, say hi to the nerds at home Allen.
Hello and welcome to all you video gamers out there. We have an exciting match for you today filled with light shows, video game exclusives, and just a little bit of trash talking, but before we get to that let’s line up today’s players!
Sony- The jazzed up entertainment corporation with an ax to grind. They came out behind in the last competition, but let me tell you something Tom they are steadily regaining ground and with their resources and hardware I would not bet against them this competition, they know what the people want and they will do anything for their approval!.
Microsoft- The Ironclad champions for the past few years they won’t be willing to relinquish their vice like grip on the market easily Allen with their experience in the technology market and their seemingly endless finances it would be a poor move for any person to underestimate this opponent.
Nintendo- A clear underdog with very little success in this competition early on and with no respite in sight ,but I gotta tell you Tom people often forget the power they can bring if they choose too and that’s the real question; will they clear their heads and actually put some effort into this game!
Well now that we have our players lined up for this competition Allen lets take a look at our Buyer Percentage Scoreboard or as we call it the BPS.
Sony : 67%
Wow Tom it really looks like Sony has pulled ahead with this one! I mean they seem to have completely blown it out of the park! How could they dethrone a giant like Microsoft so quickly?
That’s a great question Allen and to bring us the gritty details of our two spotlight console gladiators is our console expert Susan”The Metal” Solid. Susan how’s it going down there?
It’s pretty hectic down here Tom the crowds here did not get what they wanted from the reining champions this season and I gotta say if the Reddit crowd response was any indication it is going to be a hard struggle for them to if they want to retain the championship title.
That’s interesting Susan what brought about this cry of outrage?
Well Allen after their press announcement several months ago the fans were left with the feeling that the system was abandoning the basic principles that made their previous system great and focusing on a purely overall entertainment system and their E3 presentation not only proved that to them, but it also brought a series of other concerns. While they deny that the console requires and internet connection at all times it need to be connected to the internet once every 24 hours and when COO of Microsoft Don Mattrick was asked what gamers should do if they do not have internet he simply responded by saying “They should buy and Xbox 360 then”
Wow Susan that seems like they’re telling thier consumers that they should just deal with it or not buy it. Would you say that the system was not made to fit gamers ,but focuses more on entertainment?
Yes and no Tom, while the Xbox has a slew of issues such as DRM,Used games, and a serious price miscommunication, it still has system hardware specs that are on par with their competitors The only problem is that they presented it rather poorly and seemed to care more about press than their consumers and in addition to that they continuously are beating the halo horse to death in hopes that people will buy their system. It’s things like that that really seem to be a backlash against thier users
Susan one more quick question. Do you think that Mircosoft has any chance of bringing the Xbox One ahead in this race?
Absolutely! It will be a long and hard road like i said before and they may need to explore other options in their online access later down the road ,but if they can get in better touch with thier user base and realize that initial sales and reviews on console are down by the gaming community they could certainly still pull out a win in the later part of the game!
Thanks Susan and before we go to the Sony side of this conflict were going to show our biggest surprises at E3. Let’s take it to Earl Arts on the floor right now!
Hey Tom and Allen the surprise news on the floor this week was EA mainly because they didn’t announce something that made you consider that the company was the most evil thing in existence This was further reinforced with he announcement of Dragon Age 3 and surprisingly a awesome looking Plants vs Zombies 2. While gamers are wary of the would be devil’s traps many were heartened by the display of delightful looking games and overall kindly natured display.
Thanks Earl I’m sure they will go back to ripping the soul out of the gaming industry any day now so don’t fret.
Well said Allen if not just the tiniest bit unsettling , now I think it’s about to time to take it over to our Sony correspondent Carmello “The Diz” Hearts how’s it going down there Diz?
Hey guys the crowd down here at Sony entertainment is ecstatic with the recent announcements and the gamers seem to be already pulling out their money desperate to get their hands on the PS4. With the slew of amazing game reveals and hardware demos it was an overall stellar performance on Sony’s part.
Carmello gamers seem to be flocking to the PS4 quite rapidly would you attribute that to Sony’s system being better, Microsoft’s poor performance, or was it the charm of Sony’s presentation?
Alittle bit of B and C Allen. While Sony’s system form the point of view of power and capability is not that much different than Microsoft they managed to say the right things at the right time adapting their presentation to bring light to the weaker aspects of Microsoft’s bid in this competition and what really strengthened them is they were able to do it without seeming bitter or aggressive They brought laughs to the presentation and I believe that’s really what did it. On top of that while not all the titles they presented were exclusive of the Ps4 they were able to put together an impressive display of power they really drew the attention of the crowd so they would pay attention to their system more than their competitors.
Interesting, what do you think Sony needs to do in order to maintain this commanding lead over Microsoft?
Well I think they need to stay at their current course and avoid making any big changes in the coming months. They have everything going for them right now and while they need to keep thier fanbase informed they need to be careful and watch their step because it’s still early in the game and any small mistake could prove fatal for them in the long run, back to you guys.
Thanks Carmello let’s see if Sony can maintain their composer going forward now that the pressure in on. There is someone we haven’t talked about yet and the truth is because many people don’t know what their up to. Nintendo declined to go to E3 this year and this latest console the Wii U has been a disaster after it’s release earlier this year.
That is for sure Allen and while it was difficult to gain any information about what they are up to our Nintendo expert Doctor Alverez, what have you got for us Mario?
Well Tom many applauded Nintendo for not attending E3 this years speaking to how far downhill the convention has gone and speaking of it on moral grounds, when the truth is they have very little to show. A company often known for their excellent First Party titles doesn’t seem to have anything new to bring. They seems to be announcing just enough to keep general interest in their system, but nothing groundbreaking seems to be coming form them
Interesting what did they announce this year even though they did not have a booth and do you think that they will have anything new even in the next year?
Well Nintendo is starting to become a one trick pony. While I myself enjoy Nintendo’s titles it can become quite boring to buy stories about the same characters over and over again. While excitement did brew over the announcement of a new Super smash brothers which includes Mega Man in the line up and a new Mario Cart there seems to be nothing new outside their normal base of characters that builds any kind of excitement.
That seems very troubling Mario is there anything that Nintendo can do to maybe pull a second place win in this race?
Sadly I really don’t see that in any point of the future for Nintendo While they have a lot of great characters that always sell well gamers are getting tired of the lack of third party support on their systems and sadly it’s slowly pushing them out of the hardware market. If Nintendo wants any chance of a larger stake in the race they have to be willing to allow more third party development to take place and they need to take more risks with creative ideas.
That’s sad to hear from a franchise that has created so many memorable titles. Well that’s about all the time we have for today, I’d like to thank you all for tuneing into this Week’s edition of the V-Zone I’m Tom Traverse.
And I’m Allen Arkham tune in next time for the latest news on the gaming grudge match of the century!
Now you gotta admit that was at least a little but interesting. Not going to lie the whole time I was writing this I kept saying “Sports!” out loud and giggling to myself like a crazy person while in the middle of a starbucks coffee shop.
Anyways I hope you enjoyed my coming out retirement! I will be back soon!
Why Hello there my fellows in Madness, it has been too long! I apologize for my absence for the past month I have been quite the busy man, but rest assured I am here to stay and some awesome things that i have managed to put into the place during my absence are just on the horizon and I have to say I’m excited.
Though I have to say that these past few month have been quite exciting as far as the tech realms go. I will add just for my own piece of mind and as a resident of the state of Connecticut that my thoughts and prayers go out to all the families in Newton and though I am sure that many of you are tired of hearing this by now I would not be at ease if I did not mention that they are not forgotten nor should they ever be.
With that in mind let’s get on a bit of a lighter note shall we? My family visited over the holidays and I have to say I am blessed with a group of relatives who are just as nerdy as I am. We come together and we share the discoveries we have all made within the ever growing nerdverse and boy did they have stuff to share! Let’s have a bit of a breakdown of these discoveries!
I really have to give it to my sister on this one; she found something that has been making me laugh nonstop for the past few days.
Internet Personalities JonTron and Egoraptor have teamed up becoming the game grumps. For the most part they just play video game together and talk while they play, but I swear that is more than enough. Honestly just see for yourself.
I know right!?! Listen do yourself a favor and just go watch all their videos it’ll make you smile all day long.
Well this is one that I found and was happy to share. This is a Steam Greenlight game that is still pretty much in it’s alpha stages, but I have to tell you it’s awesome. To sum up the game you are a wandering swordsman in a vast wasteland and the world is completely open ended so pretty much all you have to do is make money and survive. Though the beginning is very frustrating because you can be knocked out pretty easily the game is totally worth it trust me. When you badass swordsman cuts down 5 men by himself you have the instant need to giggle. YOu can also hire members to your squad and build you own organization to combat the various bands of bandits that roam the wastes between towns.
like i said....When your guys cut down all those bandits you need a new pair of sunglasses to be the appropriate amount of badassery you feel that that moment.
I really can’t tell you much more than that because it’s still in alpha, but if you would like to check it out got to their website and if you like it throw $10 their way and you’ll get access to the alpha build and they’ll keep upgrading it minecraft style until they are done.
As per tradition my family usually goes to movies during the holiday season, so it was this or watch the hobbit for what would have been the fifth time (I am not against that I actually have seen it 7 times now) and to be honest I love musicals so this was an awesome choice.
How was it you might ask? Amazing! I would answer.
Well what was your favorite part? You my always clever reader might follow with.
I DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT QUESTION! I would shout at you and then proceed to scare you away by flailing my arms wildly in the air.
I will say this very few moovies make me tear up like this one did. Not just at the story ,but the music was so beautiful I can not begin to describe how it makes you feel.
Oh and one final question from you as you wearily poke your head into the door. “How was Hugh Jackman?” HUGH JACKMAN DESERVES AN OSCAR! I would reply to your now shattered eardrums In all seriousness I’ve always been a fan of Hugh Jackman and I have to tell you this was one of the best movies he as ever done.
I’m going to stop now though before I listen to the soundtrack all over again…..@#$%….I’ll be right back.
Ok back…..yes it was good….can we just move on? Yes? Cool!
Finally on the movie Track we have one more thing that I’m so excited about I cannot even put it into proper words.
Back when I was at New York Comic Con I was privileged enough to see The Nerdist Podcast Live with Guillermo del Toro where he talked about his upcoming film “Pacific Rim”…i was intrigued to say the least and by intrigued i mean enthralled and by enthralled I mean Holy !@#$ing !@#$ I’m excited. While I was at The Hobbit I managed to catch the new trailer that has been playing and well, I’ll let you decide my feelings.
RIGHT! I mean giant robots fighting monsters who doesn’t want to see that?!?! I am literally jumping for joy over this one and you can trust I will be bringing you every bit of information I can get about this movie.
Well my dear friends it is an honor to be back and i hope you will stick around I have so much more to give. I do have to thank alot of you for the emails and such making sure I didn’t die or something and then the encouragement when I explained the situation. I could not be happier to have a greater group of fans. SO my hats off to all of you.
Until next time my fellows in madness
May the hair on your toes never fall out -Thorin Oakenshield
Now i’m sure all of you were busy this Friday punching the old lady you don’t know for that copy of Homeland that was 50% off at Best Buy, but I hope your thanksgiving was good. Mine consisted me me catching a stomach flu which cause me to pull several muscles in my body while….how to put this lightly….”Hugging the the porcelain god.” After that image is so firmly panted in your head that you are pretty much saying “Well I might as well read this anyway to see if it’s worth it,” let’s get into the “Black Friday” business shall we?
Black Friday is an amazing holiday in the gaming world. Games and systems which are unreachable to those who have to spend money on stupid things like food and rent are within our grasp to purchase….if you go on a diet of Ramen noodles till your next paycheck. I for one chose that dietary option and got myself a PSVita I gotta tell you it’s awesome. Combine it with a copy of Assassin’s Creed: Liberation and Persona 4 the price tag came out to be about $178, whcih is about $100 less than it would of costed so I’m pretty happy with it.
I gotta tell you I finally got around to playing a Persona game and I’m only about a quarter the way through and I’ve gotta tell you if you haven’t played you’ve gotta play it. My sister has been telling me for years to play it and I’m sure she’s jumping for joy as I say it is one of the most innovative RPGs I have ever played. I know I’m really late to the game, but man this game is so good I can’t even describe what’s good about it.
When you have to describe something you need to look for the bad points to elevate the good things within the game. Well I gotta tell you the only thing that this game has wrong with it is the game starts out slow, but that is only because they have to set up the amazing story line that grips you from the get go. You find yourself as interested in what’s happening as the characters themselves. They tell you nothing, but what the main character himself knows and don’t explain anything.
A few quick answers. 1) Yes that is a stuffed bear, his name is Teddie and he talks 2) I know they will ,but they havn't explained what he is yet and it is delightfully infuriating. 3) He tells terrible puns....and I love it
Now that many sound like it confusing, but they somehow manage to make the story so gripping and interesting you find yourself enthralled by the mystery itself and begin to see yourself as more of a team member than the player while your trying to figure out the mystery.
As I have not yet finished this game I can;t give you much more of a read on it ,but I can tell you to buy it because I know it won’t disappoint. I’ll keep you updated on how it turns out. Until then avoid that Grandma you punched I hear she’s the Matron of some Biker Gang!
Good morning my fellow friends of madness! Today I have updates galore along with some interesting news tidbits, so let’s jump right in.
We have new shows coming on the horizon!
After long months of discussion and planning we are going ahead with multiple projects of both video and audio content. This all started from Last on the Scene, that was a trial to see if we could handle the camera shooting schedule and turns out it was so much fun we wanted to do more. Guys the ideas that are flowing are so great I cannot even begin to tell you.
This also means that we will be having a few more writers join me on this little blog and that more podcast episodes are on the horizon, so stay tuned for that.
Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot!….Again!
Ok so it’s no secret I hate the Wii-U, I mean if you don’t know by now and you’ve been reading this blog…I honestly don’t know what to tell you. Well today the system just released, selling out nation wide in a matter of hours. This of course means a lot of money for Nintendo making the console a success… I guess, but I never talk about things as far as sales because what’s important to me is how they design their products and i gotta tell you it’s not looking good.
I happen to know a friend that works in the higher reaches of Nintendo and he managed to snag me a system I could borrow for a couple days so I will be posting more updates as I go along ,but here’s what we have so far.
The games are out of all honesty terrible launch titles. Games that we thought would be promising are a huge let down, take ZombiU for example. This game was what drew in many people from the beginning it was a new fresh take for the Wii and it was what I would call “One of the few saving graces for the Wii-U”. Well with that statement in mind I’ll ask you the following questions.
Do you like Zombies? Do you like killing Zombies? Ok, well do you like boring repetitive game play in which you hit zombies with a cricket bat and look for stupid numbers on the wall? Did I mention you do that for almost 6 hours in the game? If your answer was Yes,Yes,Yes, and Well no…but that sounds awesome, then do I have a game for you!
On top of that remember that whole friend code thing the original Wii had? Well fear not that whole 12 digit code you both would have to enter to simply begin the “friending” process of the system is gone and replaced by The Nintendo ID. The Nintendo ID is a simple system ID number you have to enter in order to friend people, except you both have to enter it in order for a friend request to be even be made; so basically it the same thing ,but less digits and a little bit more hassle. Over all though, my god have they really just not understood how the internet works!
It seems to me like Nintendo has spent too much time trying to be innovative and less time making the system enjoyable for users. Now there are the Nintendo fan boys out there that will more than likely say the following. “Man you just hate Nintendo! The system is great! They are going to push out some amazing titles next year. They will blow Sony and Microsoft out of the water!”
And here is my answer to such statements. “No I hate what they’ve become, It’s not it’s a complete mess, More than likely, but with the Mario card already played they have about 6 good titles that can try and work with, and No, just no the currennt Wii-U is a glorified Xbox 360 when you look at it graphically and Microsoft is making a new one next year and Sony was already better as far as overall computing power and they both dominated Nintendo as far as hit titles this year, so you tell me how much hope do you really have?”
So with all of that in mind I bid you a found farewell! If I’ve brought down your spirits today maybe this video will cheer you up!
So if you haven’t noticed already we have expanded the With Madness in Mind production to include a Television show. I am very excited about this I cannot even put it into words. Also we are all very tired from the editing process, this is all very new to us and we hope to improve as more show go along. I’ve gotta say though it was a blast to film. So why don’t you just sit back and enjoy. We will be pushing more content out in the coming months so stay tuned!
Hello my friends and welcome back to another edition oF I”I say what I want and then you just read it”… sounds like a good title to me. I’ve spent the last couple day in an exhausted daze. WIth filming of our new tech show for the website and our many other avenues that we are pursuing that I think will really bring this website to life (Release date is TBD), I’ve found myself with so very little time to care about the most recent news. It’s not that there’s nothing good.. well there isn’t because I hate both Black Ops and Halo 4, but that’s beyond the point.
I did manage to gleam one awesome video that inspired my imagination.
Yep that’s right! The Elder Scrolls MMO!
I cannot tell you how this concept invigorates me. The games of the elder scrolls series have always been a personal favorite of mine, the level of storytelling and thier beautiful gameplay and artwork grips me in a way that fully immerses me into the game. Now your telling me that there is going to be an MMO based on that world? I’m already beyond in.
What really seems to grab me is the way they want to stand out from other MMO’s. Honestly I stop playing them about five months after I start. This isn’t because the game is bad or there was something I didn’t like, I usually stop because I can’t take the people who are obsessed with what I call “Stat gameplay” let me define that for you.
Stat Gameplay: Where a player within any game concerns themselves more with statistical values of items or units in the pursuit of victory rather than simply playing the game was it was intended ,thus turning it into a giant game of number muncher.
I cannot stand when people do this. Out of all honesty it ruins the experience of the game and makes you feel like your in a computer program. Who cares if that staff gives you 1 more point towards this or that? Who cares if doing something that way ensures that we can win? The only question I ever ask is “Is it fun?”. When I look at Elder Scrolls I see a world that has a limitess amount of fun and will allow me to be whatever I want to be.
I usually play the warrior in those games , charging in with a sword and shield because out of all honesty I get a thrill out of the charge and the power it holds.
Yeah sure let's use that one
This game holds alot of promise, though I’m unsure about the whole siege / war for control thing they want to do not because it’s stupid, but because it has been tried so many times and with varying degrees of success. The interface that they have so far as I can tell seems to be done well, though I can’t really tell you that much from a nine minute pre alpha video. Bethesda is known for keeping thier projects close to thier chest so I doubt we’ll hear of anything breaking until they decide they want to, so be sure to stayed tuned for more news on that end.
Well that’s my little news bit for Monday I will have more for you on Wednesday so be sure ot tune in for that! Until then my friends have a great week and be sure to let me know if there is anything I should be looking at!
I have returned! From the very depths of Tartarus itself I have broken my bonds and have come back to you know, at the turn of the tide. It is only fitting that we discuss a big story in my highly celebrated return (Well I mean I am celebrating it).
On October 30th Disney announced it’s 4 billion dollar purchase of Lucas Film along with all of it’s franchise property.
Now Lucas Film was privately owned 100% by founder George Lucas so my hat is off to him for the recent (though unneeded) increase in wealth as well as becoming one of the largest shareholders in Disney stock with 40 million shares.
You are correct in fact she is now a Disney Princess.....and she's not as nice as all the other ones
Now this news has been met with some hesitance from fans of the Star Wars universe, many claiming that with Lucas leaving that the franchise my be dead forever. On a personal note I find this hilarious because these are the same people that said Lucas was the one killing the franchise when he released the most recent editions to the Star Wars movie series, but that’s beyond the point. These extreme statements from fans have only increased when Disney CEO Robert Iger said the following “Our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.” Many people who were more than likely burned by the hopes that episode one was supposed to be a good thing are up in arms like they might actually bring Jar-Jar back for all three and let’s face it nobody is that stupid, so let’s be realistic here.
I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. When you look at what Disney has done to Marvel as far as movies go (Yep that’s right they own them too) they’ve completely brought them back to life. They were the ones who greenlit the Avengers project arguably one of the best movies this year, as well as many other franchises in the Marvel Universe and Marvel has never been more profitable. Have we forgotten that Disney also owns Pixar? Pixar, the most famous animation studio in the history of animated movies who’s batting record is almost 100% (Cars 2 is a foul ball…though I liked it).
Sure we can point out the studio’s mistakes like John Carter and Xmen 3,but if you look at the average they’re doing a pretty good job.
If you need more recent proof take a look at Disney’s newest release Wreck it Ralph. I saw this movie on the day of release and I’ve gotta tell you it’s amazing. If you’re looking for confidence in Disney as a whole go out and see this movie it will more than do the trick for you. I will keep details to a minimum because I have a review planned for later this week, but needless to say forget waiting for my review just go out and see it.
As for the matter at hand I think people are way too worried about this. Disney want to do justice to the francise and create more content whether that be movies, television, or even video games Disney wants to breath life back into and francise that out of all honesty is too famous not to have created as little as it has over the past few years.
Need I say more?
I don’t think George Lucas could of said it better when he was quoted about this purchase “For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said Lucas “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.”
Listen I’m not saying you have to be ok with this, though I think you should be when you do the math. What I am saying is that this has already happened and we can protest and do our best to sabotage this thing and ruin a franchise that someone is trying to save regardless of their purposes, or we can show our support as fans and give someone else a chance to bring back the magic that Star Wars brought to us all at one point in our lives.
When I talk about Kickstarter projects there is usually a lot of worry on my part. Telling people to spend money on a project that may or may not be successful is very stressful when there is the possibility that this game could be horrible. This also requires me to do a lot more work in researching this project and the developers involved with the project to establish the credibility of the project.
Luckily for me I’ve have been on the mark as far as picking good projects so far. I just received the prototype for Castle Story and it is awesome. You can’t really complain that it is buggy or broken because it is an alpha version of the game and more of a proof of concept program. I gotta tell you though it is far from complete I’m already happy with the result. The game just feels fun and I cannot put it down
For those of you who do not know what Castle Story is check this out
Though it is not possible to get the prototype right now I will be bringing you frequent updates about the game as well as further kickstarter projects that I think will be well worth your time.
In fact let me show you two I’ve been watching for the past few days.
Timber and Stone
Similar to the idea of Castle story ,but closer to the Minecraft realm of gaming. The idea is to create a city building game in a medieval/fantasy setting at the same time you must build an army to defend that city from goblin hordes, barbarians or even the undead armies of your local necromancer.
Or you know...Giant spiders.....of course
Now there are some unknowns here. This is project is being created by one man not a development teams, so there is alot resting on his shoulders. It is the same risk I held against castle story, but they had three people on their team and more working for them so I don’t suggest throwing your money at this one to be on the safe side. That being said for $15 you get a copy of the game and I consider that to be a low risk scenario so if you have that hanging around I would totally recommend this.
Strike Suit Zero
Who doesn’t like a good mech game? I mean as long as it involves blowing up everything within the view of your cockpit then it’s worthy of at least one play-through. I was originally going to try to describe what the game was,but what they say on their Kickstarter page sums the game up way better in my mind.
“Strike Suit Zero is a PC game that offers fast and frantic space-combat, putting you in the middle of massive fleet battles where the fate of Earth relies on your dogfighting skills. You’ll take to the cockpit of a powerful transforming craft known as the Strike Suit, where – at the tap of a button – your craft will transform from a traditional fighter, to a hulking suit of space armour.”
Ok beyond how cool that sounds the game also look gorgeous, take a look at this.
This picture alone makes me want this game.
Now to be fair I’ve been a space combat fan since I saw Star Wars when I was young. Since then I’ve loved anything that involved space combat and have studied it with almost a creepy obsession so I may be bias when I say you should donate to this game. I will back up this statement though with the people that involved with this project. If you look at their Kickstarter page you’ll see a name that will jump out at you.
Junji Okubo, who was involved with games such as Steel Battalion, Infinite Space, Appleseed: Ex Machina and Viper’s Creed.
This is also futher cemented by the development team Born Ready Games that is behind this project. So you know that it isn’t just s few guys working out of their basement…or at least they are pretending not to be.
My advise? Go and donate $20 for an awesome game and enjoy some space combat.
By the way I never tell you to donate to games that I haven’t already donated to myself just in case you were thinking I’m going to lead you astray.
